Additional Informations

Horchata is a beverage made from rice, almonds, or chufa nuts, depending on the region it is prepared. As it is not a fermented product and does not contain any known histamine liberators, the impact of consuming horchata on histamine levels is expected to be minimal. However, the ingredients used in different versions of horchata may affect this statement. In terms of high histamine foods presented, Horchata is not grouped with those. Ingredients often found in horchata, such as rice and almonds, are known to contain low levels of histamine. Almonds are considered low in histamine, and hence almond-based horchata should be suitable for those maintaining low histamine dietary habits. Similarly, rice is also considered a low histamine food, making rice-based horchata a low-risk option. The chufa nut, or tiger nut, is less researched in terms of its histamine content, meaning we cannot definitively assess its impact on histamine levels. This product has not been researched well enough to publish any information, our team is working hard on this. Data will be available soon. Furthermore, other ingredients often added to horchata, such as cinnamon or vanilla, are not known to be high in histamine or trigger the release of histamine. Cinnamon, on the contrary, has been suggested to possess anti-inflammatory properties which may help in managing histamine related responses, but more research is needed in this area to confirm such benefits. It is essential to consider that individual sensitivity to different foods can vary greatly among individuals who are managing histamine intolerance. While these generalities can offer guidelines, personal experiences may differ. References: - Maintz, L., & Novak, N. (2007). Histamine and histamine intolerance.
