Orzo Pasta Histamine Information

Orzo pasta, a form of short-cut pasta shaped like a large grain of rice, is typically made from semolina, a type of durum wheat, and water. As per the analysis of the ingredients, it doesn't contain any high histamine content foods nor any histamine liberators. Durum wheat, the main ingredient in orzo pasta, appears to have a minimal impact on histamine levels. A study published by the "International Journal of Food Properties" found that wheat has lower levels of inherently present biogenic amines such as histamine as compared to other food products like cheese or fish [1]. Additionally, it does not seem to contribute to the release of histamine or hinder its breakdown. However, it's important to mention that the ultimate impact on histamine levels can also depend significantly on how the orzo pasta is prepared and what it's served with. If cooked or served with high histamine ingredients such as tomatoes, cheeses, or vinegar-based sauces, or with histamine liberators like mushrooms or nuts, the final dish could indeed contribute to increased histamine levels. It appears that, by itself, orzo pasta may not significantly impact histamine levels. However, more research may be needed to confirm this conclusively, as the specific impact of orzo pasta on histamine levels has not been directly studied.
