Clementines are a citrus fruit, and similar to other citrus fruits, they can potentially function as histamine liberators, even though they do not inherently contain high levels of histamine. Histamine liberators prompt the body to release extra histamine and can exacerbate symptoms in individuals with histamine intolerance. One study suggested that the peel and juice of citrus fruits might influence histamine levels. Notably, the research discovered that citrus juice promotes histamine release in human basophils and leukocytes. Importantly, this indicates the role citrus fruits might play in influencing histamine levels (Mori, Inoue & Yakushiji, 1985). Moreover, it's important to note that clementines, as with any food, could impact different individuals uniquely. Some people with histamine intolerance may notice symptoms after consuming clementines, while others may not experience any changes in their histamine levels. Therefore, personal tolerance levels should always be considered. In contrast, no specific data currently suggest that clementines may lower histamine levels.
