Additional Informations
Kohlrabi, a member of the cabbage family, is not typically associated with high histamine content nor is it known as a histamine liberator. The vegetable mostly consists of water, dietary fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C and potassium. There is currently no scientific research or publication directly linking Kohlrabi to increased histamine levels or histamine release in humans.
However, it is noteworthy that Kohlrabi is rich in Vitamin C, which is known to assist in the breakdown of histamine in the body. A study by Johnston, Martin & Cai (1992) exhibited this phenomenon, where a diet high in Vitamin C led to a lower blood histamine level. Therefore, increasing consumption of Vitamin C rich foods, such as Kohlrabi, may help to decrease histamine levels in the body.
Yet, individual reactions to certain foods can vary greatly, so monitoring and noting any personal reactions to Kohlrabi would be beneficial in managing individual histamine level.
It is recommended that individual dietary decisions should be made with the assistance of health professionals, taking into account personal health history and current health status.
