Additional Informations

Poppy seeds, which are frequently used in baking and cooking worldwide, have not been shown to have a significant direct impact on histamine levels. They do not appear on lists of high-histamine foods, nor are they considered histamine liberators (foods which trigger the body to release stored histamine) or inhibitors of DAO, the enzyme that breaks down histamine in the body. However, while poppy seeds themselves may not affect histamine levels, it's worth noting that they are often found in foods which do. Many baked goods contain yeast, a high-histamine ingredient. If a recipe calls for a large quantity of poppy seeds and is also made with yeast, the dish's overall histamine content may be raised despite the poppy seeds’ neutrality. Additionally, poppy seeds are often found in foods with other potential histamine-releasing ingredients like citrus fruits and strawberries (in poppy seed dressing for salads, for instance) or cocoa products (in baked goods like muffins or cakes). Until more data becomes available, it would seem reasonable to conclude that while poppy seeds themselves may not significantly alter histamine levels, their typical culinary context could contribute to an increase in overall histamine intake. This product has not been researched well enough to publish any information, our team is working hard on this. Data will be available soon. Source: Wimbledon Clinics (2019).
