Additional Informations

Mate tea, derived from the leaves of the yerba mate plant (Ilex paraguariensis), is a popular beverage in South America. Its impact on histamine levels is not widely documented, thus making its relation with histamine different to ascertain. However, an important point to note is that, Mate tea is rich in polyphenols which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties, potentially reducing the overall histamine levels in the body (1). Nevertheless, beverages such as tea, including Mate tea, possess molecules such as methylxanthines that can inhibit diamine oxidase (DAO), an enzyme that breaks down histamine in the body (2). This could lead to an increase in histamine levels if the body's other histamine breakdown pathways are not functioning optimally. However, it is noteworthy to realize that every individual's response to dietary factors may differ significantly due to the differences in their gut microbiota, genetic makeup, and overall health. Reality calls for more research to understand the specific effects of Mate tea on histamine levels. Hence, making a definite conclusion with the currently available research may not be feasible. This product has not been researched well enough to publish any concrete information, our team is working hard on this. Data will be available soon. References: 1.
